PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic Acid)

A long-chain PFAS compound historically used in Teflon manufacturing, now banned in the US.

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA, or C8) was widely used by DuPont and 3M to manufacture Teflon and other fluoropolymer products. PFOA is associated with kidney and testicular cancer, thyroid disease, and high cholesterol. The EPA established a Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) of 4 parts per trillion (ppt) for PFOA in drinking water in 2024.
