PFAS Contamination in Nevada

Nevada's PFAS contamination is concentrated around military installations and airports in the state's limited water supply regions. Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas has documented significant soil and groundwater contamination from firefighting foam use, threatening the Las Vegas Valley's groundwater resources in an already water-stressed environment. Reno-Tahoe International Airport has contributed additional contamination affecting the Truckee River watershed and Lake Tahoe region.

Nevada's arid climate and limited water resources make PFAS contamination particularly concerning. The Colorado River system, which supplies most of southern Nevada's water, requires protection from contamination sources throughout the basin. Northern Nevada's reliance on the Truckee River and groundwater systems means any contamination can quickly affect large populations with limited alternative supplies.
